Umeh Slated for Tansian Varsity Chancellorship

By Jude Atupulazi

The Senator representing Anambra Central Central, Chief Sir Victor Umeh, is set to be appointed the Chancellor of faith-based Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Eugene Nwadialor, said the installation might coincide with the ceremonies marking the 7th -11th combined convocation of the University.

A letter appointing Senator Umeh as the Chancellor of the University was handed to him at a ceremony last year.

According to Nwadialor, 2,425 students of the university would be awarded degrees in different fields of study, having met the requirements in both character and learning.

He said out of the number, 27 made First Class Honours, while 944 passed in Second Class Honours, Upper Division.

He explained that the graduates had been well equipped with quality education and also received the morals and patriotism needed to serve the nation in different areas of social, economic and cultural development of Nigeria and humanity at large.

‘The Parents’ Forum allows for cross fertilization of ideas on how best to cater for the needs and interests of the students. As the saying goes, no one has a monopoly of ideas/knowledge,’ the Vice Chancellor said.

Nwadialor further said that as part of sustainability and in advancing the frontiers of knowledge through teaching and research, Tansian University had mounted post graduate courses, which, he added, were duly approved in the Faculties of Management and Social Science, as well as Natural and Applied Sciences.

He identified funding as a major challenge confronting the University as a private tertiary institution, lamenting lack of government subvention or TETFund interventions for private universities in the country.
