In his bid to strengthen the Anambra Police to enhance market community, relevant stakeholders’ relationship with the members of the public, using sports, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has declared that the Command will partner members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter
In a release signed by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, and made available to sports writers, he stated that the CP had proposed to partner with SWAN to organise sports competitions with the market community and relevant stakeholders to enhance the police’s relationship with the public, thus promoting a sense of community bonding and trust.
The CP, according to the release, noted that the initiative was a great way to promote social cohesion and improve communication between law enforcement and the public.
‘This will create a positive and engaging environment for the public, and by so doing, showcase the importance of sports in building bridges between law enforcement and the community,’ he said
Appreciating the CP, the Chairman of the SWAN Anambra State Chapter, Mr Chimezie Anaso, thanked the CP for receiving the Association and expressed readiness to partner with the Command to actualize its goals. Consequently, the Command and SWAN are reviewing the proposal to enable them to select the participants and the theme of the competition accordingly.
‘CP Orutugu’s commitment to community policing and public engagement is evident in his efforts to partner with various stakeholders and to end violent crimes in the state,’ the statement read.
