Obiano Lays Foundation Stone of Alor General Hospital

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State officially laid the foundation stone of Alor General Hospital.

The event which was held at the premises of Alor Primary Health Care Centre, attracted Alor Sons and Daughters, as well as their traditional ruler, Igwe MacAnthony Okonkwo.

Speaking during the event, Governor Obiano represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, commended Ndi Alor for taking the giant step of building the hospital.

He maintained that the Anambra State government will continue to encourage Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the State to achieve even development in all sectors of the State.

The Governor further said that his administration wants to entrench affordable and effective health care system in the state, hence the introduction of the state’s health insurance scheme, which he said, has covered many people in the State medically.

Governor Obiano promised that his administration will provide every other relevant things the hospital needs to function maximally, once it was completed and urged other communities in the State to emulate Ndi Alor.

In a welcome address, the Chairman Caretaker Committee Alor Peoples Convention, Honorable Okey Elosiuba, said that the historic event is another bold step by the Obiano’s administration to end medical tourism among the rural communities by upgrading and standardizing existing facilities to fully fledged ultra modern general hospital.

He added that the project will enable his people access better medical facility, thereby improving their quality of life.

The traditional ruler of the Community, Igwe Mac Anthony Okonkwo, commended the Governor for his exploits in the health care system, and described the event as monumental and historical to Ndi Alor, and assured that the community will always support the policies and programs of the current administration in the State.

Our correspondent reports that the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health, Dr. John Ndibe, the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Medical Supply, Jennifer Onyedikachi, were part of the guests that graced the event, while official laying of foundation by Governor Obiano, made the occasion a memorable one.
