An Anglican Clergyman, Ven. Dr. Onyeka Egwuonwu has said that giving in the Church is a sacred act of worship.
Ven. Dr. Egwuonwu pointed out that, ‘When people give their offerings, they do so out of love for God, faith in His promises, and commitment to the growth of His Church”.
He noted that such giving is not merely a financial contribution but, an offering made unto God.
Ven. Dr. Egwuonwu who is the Archdeacon CHS Awka Archdeaconry and Vicar Church of The Holy Spirit Awka pointed out that, however, those entrusted with the management of Church funds must recognise that the sacredness of giving demands equal sacredness in its handling.
He said that generosity inspired by faith must be met with transparency, accountability, honesty, and spiritual responsibility.
He said further that: “People give generously because they honour God, but they also expect that what is given in God’s name will be managed in a manner worthy of Him. When Church funds are misused, the resulting reactions are not always a rejection of giving; they may be expressions of disappointment over the betrayal of sacred trust.
“What is offered to God must never be treated as personal property, and what is entrusted to the Church must never be handled without accountability.
“The offering is sacred, the trust is sacred, and accountability is a spiritual duty”, he concluded.
