Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has conferred its prestigious Christian Icon award to the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori.
This is coming on the hills of CAN’s Golden Jubilee Celebration at Abuja.
Meanwhile, the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ede Dafinone, has congratulated Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, on his conferment with the prestigious Christian Icon Award by CAN, describing the honour as a recognition of the governor’s exemplary leadership, humility, commitment to public service and dedication to Christian values.
Governor Oborevwori received the award during CAN’s 50th anniversary celebration held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, in recognition of the qualities of leadership and service celebrated by the Christian body.
In a congratulatory statement personally signed by him, Dafinone said the honour was a source of pride to Delta State and the Urhobo Nation, noting that the governor’s leadership continued to attract recognition beyond the boundaries of the state.
The senator stated: “I warmly congratulate His Excellency, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, on his conferment with the prestigious ‘Christian Icon Award’ by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), during its 50th Anniversary celebration at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.”
Describing the recognition as well-deserved, Dafinone said: “This distinguished recognition by Nigeria’s foremost Christian body is a testament to Your Excellency’s exemplary leadership, humility, commitment to public service and dedication to the Christian virtues of faith, integrity, compassion and service to humanity. It is an honour that brings immense pride to Delta State and Urhobo People.”
The Delta Central lawmaker particularly commended Oborevwori’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, inclusive governance and people-oriented leadership, stressing that these qualities remained essential to sustainable development and societal harmony.
“As the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, I am particularly delighted that your leadership continues to attract recognition beyond the boundaries of our state. Your commitment to peaceful coexistence, inclusive governance, and advancing our collective aspirations reflects the enduring values on which responsible, people-oriented leadership must be built,” he stated.
Dafinone expressed optimism that the award would further inspire the governor to consolidate the achievements of his administration under the MORE Agenda, strengthen unity among Deltans and intensify efforts towards improving the welfare of the people.
He said: “I believe this honour will further strengthen your resolve to sustain the gains of your administration’s MORE Agenda, deepen the bonds of unity among Deltans and continue to pursue policies and programmes that improve the lives of our people.”
The senator, however, emphasised that such recognition also placed greater responsibility on the governor to remain committed to the principles of selfless leadership, accountability and service to humanity.
“Indeed, recognition of this nature comes with an even greater responsibility to remain steadfast in the service of God and humanity,” Dafinone added.
He further assured the governor of the goodwill of his family and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, while offering prayers for divine guidance, wisdom and strength, as Oborevwori continues to steer the affairs of Delta State.
“On behalf of my family and the good people of Delta Central Senatorial District, I heartily felicitate with Your Excellency on this well-deserved honour. I pray that Almighty God continues to grant you divine wisdom, sound health, strength and grace to lead Delta State to greater heights of peace, prosperity and development. Congratulations, Your Excellency!” the statement added.
