A press release by the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that the gang were accosted at a checkpoint on Sunday evening.
Ikenga said the gang was travelling in a commercial vehicle from Nnewi to Onitsha, when they were stopped at a checkpoint, but one of the gang members quickly drew a berretta pistol, but was gunned down by a police personnel.

‘A search of the bag they were travelling with yielded a concealed dagger.’
Ikenga said two passengers in the vehicles who were deemed not to be a member of the gang, but boarded the vehicle along the way, were ordered to be set free by the state Police Commissioner, CP Aderemi Adeoye.
He said: ‘The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, ordered the immediate release of two elderly passengers who boarded the bus at a different location.
