The Organized Labour in Anambra state led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra State Council, Comrade (Sir) Humphrey Emeka Nwafor, on May 1st, 2025, at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, during this year’s Workers’ Day Celebration themed “Claiming The Civic Space in The Midst Of Economic Hardship”, honoured the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, with the “Workers Beacon of Hope” Award for what it described as his sterling performance in the governance of the state and for being a worker-friendly Governor.
Speaking shortly before presenting the award of recognition to the Governor at the newly refurbished Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, the organised Labour Leader, Nwafor, noted that they were proud to honour Governor Soludo with the “Workers’ Beacon of Hope” Award in acknowledgement of what he described as his exceptional empathy, dedication, and unwavering support for workers in Anambra State.
Comrade Nwafor on behalf of others expressed and conveyed their sincere appreciation for what he termed Soludo’s prompt and thorough implementation of the 2024 approved minimum wage. According to him, while the national benchmark was set at ₦70,000, Soludo generously approved ₦82,000—the highest in the Southeast—and implemented it seamlessly across all sectors without any industrial encumbrance.
He commended Soludo for what he described as his visionary leadership and significant efforts to transform Anambra into a hub of economic and infrastructural excellence.
The event was attended by many top government functionaries, including Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, stakeholders, union leaders, among others.
