By Michael Nnebife

The atmosphere of Agulu in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, was filled with celebration like no other as the students, Management and Old Girls of Rosa Mystica High School, Agulu, gathered for the grand finale of the Diamond Jubilee of the school, described by admirers as the best school for the best girls.

‎Among the highlights of the historic event, which took place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, were blessing of the school’s ultramodern kitchen and refectory remodeled and furnished by Rosa Mystica Alumnae Association, inauguration of the association’s new executive led by Dr Chioma Okonkwo as a Global President, and presentation of awards to various individuals, who included the Proprietor of the school, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor, in recognition of their various contributions to the development of the school.

‎Dignitaries that graced the epoch-making event, which began with a Holy Mass presided over by Bishop Ezeokafor, were the Chancellor of Awka Catholic Diocese, Rev Fr Charles Ndubuisi; Bishop Ezeokafor’s Secretary, Rev Fr Evaristus Ifeanacho; the Education Secretary of the Diocese, Rev Fr Robert Angelo Obiakor; among others.

‎Speaking in a homily during the Holy Mass, the Bishop expressed happiness and deep gratitude to God, saying the school was making steady progress, academically, morally, and materially.

‎Bishop Ezeokafor said the school had produced great women who were distinguishing themselves in their various fields across the world.

‎He advised the graduating students and the old girls to live out the knowledge and values they acquired wherever they found themselves as good ambassadors of the school.

‎The Prelate thanked the Old Girls for their contributions to the development of the school, urging them to continue supporting the school which he described as the foundation of what they were.

‎He charged them and the current students to emulate the virtues of Blessed Virgin Mary, the Patron Saint of the school.

‎The Chief Shepherd of Awka Diocese thanked all the individuals who contributed to the development of the school.

‎Reflecting on the readings of the day, the Prelate reminded the gathering that God graciously endowed every individual with unique talents and urged them to identify their own and make best use of them for the common good.

‎In his address of welcome, the School Manager, Rev Fr Paul Chimezie, appreciated the Bishop for his unwavering fatherly care the school enjoyed, and the parent-teacher-association of the school, including the alumnae, as well as numerous individuals, for their support and contributions to the development of the school.

‎Fr Chimezie said for the past six decades, the school had remained committed to providing young women with sound education, discipline, moral values and confidence to contribute meaningfully to development and advancement of society.

‎’This historic milestone is therefore not merely a celebration of the passage of 60 years, but a celebration of the enduring value of education and transformative power of investing in the girl child,’ he said, reeling out the achievements of the school in recent times.

‎’Our students have been making us proud in all external examinations – BECE, NECO, WASSCE and UTME. It’s been 100% success in having five credits and above, including in English and Mathematics,’ the Manager said, among others.

‎He listed a number of challenges facing the school to include converting its dilapidated JSS2 classroom block to a storey building in which, he said, the downstairs would have classrooms and the upstairs, library and ICT to enable the school to participate in computer-based WASSEC examinations.

‎’It’s been estimated to cost N171,259,900,’ Chimezie said, among others.

‎In an interview with Fides, the Chairman, Parent-Teacher-Association of the school, Comrade Vincent Oguno, expressed gratitude to the Management of the school for doing their best in giving the students what they needed to succeed.

‎Also speaking with Fides, the Global President of Rosa Mystica High School Alumnae Association, Dr Chioma Okonkwo, said, Rosa Mystica High School was a legacy of excellence, foundation of strong values and beacon of hope for generations of young women.

‎’As we celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of our alma mater, we honour the founders, dedicated educators, Management and all who have sustained this noble vision,’ she said, and assured the commitment of the old girls to continue contributing to the development of the school.

‎For her part, another old girl, Chinyere Ezisi, described her alma mater as a school of the moment.

‎Ezisi, who during the event, received an award on behalf of his elder brother and strong supporter of the school, Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, who built a belfry for the school in memory of the father, Sir Herbert Kingsley Ezisi, described Rosa Mystica as the best school for the best girls.

‎The historic event, which commenced on Sunday October 18, with an Episcopal visit of the Proprietor and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Ezeokafor, during which he blessed a gigantic chapel renovated and equipped by the PTA of the school, belfry, renovated entrance school gate, and the School’s Main Avenue, also featured presentation of prizes to the best graduating students of the 2025/2026 set.

‎During the event, chaired by Chief Joe Iloh, one of the old girls, Barr Uju Obiefuna, offered a full education scholarship award to the best graduating student, Maryjane Mmesomachukwu Okpalaku, of the 2025/2026 set, to study in any Nigerian university of her choice.
