The new Traditional Ruler of Adazi-Nnukwu Town in Anaocha LGA, Anambra State, Igwe Ethelbert Muoka (Adama Adazi-Nnukwu), September 1, received his Certificate of Recognition from the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR, at the Governor’s Conference Hall, Light House, Awka.
Igwe Muoka, who was warmly welcomed by the people of the community from the Government House Awka to Eke Market, Adazi-Nnukwu and to Afor Civic Centre, Adazi-Nnukwu, equally received the royal staff of office and the cap from the entire People of Adazi-Nnukwu as the traditional custodian of the town.
Speaking at the presentation of the Certificate of Recognition, Governor Soludo, noted that the emergence of the Traditional Ruler followed strict legal protocols, which transitioned smoothly from the community level up to the Anaocha Local Government Authority, to the Department of Security Services (DSS) for necessary screening and subsequent approval by the State Government.
The Governor advised the new Traditional Ruler to act as a unifying figure and serve as an impartial father to all members of the town. While noting that opposition to authority was a long-standing reality, Soludo urged the monarch to do his best to ensure lasting peace in Adazi-Nnukwu Community.
The event was witnessed by the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers’ Council, Igwe Chidubem Iweka, of Obosi, alongside the President-General of Adazi-Nnukwu Town Development Union (ATDU), Engr Sir Cyril Maduka Anetoh; the Community Women’s Leader of Adazi-Nnukwu Town Development Union and a former Attorney General of Anambra State, Barr Uju Nworgu, and other key stakeholders of Adazi-Nnukwu Town.
In an interview with the press, Igwe Ethelbert Muoka (Adama Adazi-Nnukwu), assured that his reign would promote peaceful coexistence, harmony and unity while being supported by his people, and working in collaboration with the President-General of the Town.
The Traditional Ruler, who is also known as Ezeana Nnanyelugo, among other Ozo titles, stated that he would work through the various clans and other tiers of government in the community for optimum development and lasting peace in Adazi-Nnukwu. This was even as he assured that his reign would enjoy the support and collaboration of the women’s leadership of Adazi-Nnukwu, as well as give youth empowerment priority.
At the reception that followed at Afor Civic Centre, Adazi-Nnukwu, the entire people of the town, through the Head of Nze na Ozo Title Holders, Chief Bert Ezimora (Ezeana Isimmiri of Adazi-Nnukwu), presented the royal cap and the royal sceptre to Igwe Muoka, Adama, as the custodian of tradition, power and authority of Adazi-Nnukwu.
In an interview, the President-General of Adazi-Nnukwu Town Development, Engr Sir Cyril Maduka Anetoh, KSJI (Ichie Ugonna), expressed his delight that HRH Igwe Muoka, Adama Adazi-Nnukwu, was a technocrat and a retired federal civil servant of great worth and integrity, expressing confidence that the Igwe would do well as the Traditional Ruler of the town.
While noting that the Igwe was elected through majority votes by the entire People of Adazi-Nnukwu, the President-General assured to continue to work, support and collaborate with Adama for the smooth running of Adazi-Nnukwu Town.
For his part, a younger brother of the monarch, Mr Aloy Muoka (Mgbajiaka), said he was happy that the entire people of Adazi-Nnukwu saw his elder brother as a good candidate and voted him to serve as the Igwe. He expressed his conviction that Igwe Muoka, who, he said, was a man of peace, would serve with peace and the fear of God for optimum development and progress of the town.
It will be recalled that Igwe Ethelbert Muoka, Ezeana Ugonwa, was elected in an election that was conducted simultaneously in all the branches of Adazi-Nnukwu Town Development Union on November 28, 2025, and at a collation that was done on December 23, 2025, in Adazi-Nnukwu, he was declared the winner with over 700 votes. Chief Muoka, defeated other two contestants, who polled over 200 votes each. The collation was carried out in the presence of the executives of the various branches of ATDU as well as the Anambra State and Anaocha LGA officials.
A bona-fide member of Adazi-Nnukwu Town Development Union, Abuja Branch, Igwe Muoka is also a member of Obinwanne Age Grade of Adazi-Nnukwu.
