The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Abayomi Peter Oladipo, has assumed duty as the 8th substantive AIG of Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, Dunukofia LGA, Anambra State. He replaces Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone13 Ukpo, AIG Godwin Ndidi Aghaulor.

In a release signed and made available to newsmen in Ukpo shortly after the unveiling of the new AIG to the press, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPPRO), Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, CSP Ihunwo Josephine K., recalled that recently, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, approved the posting of an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) to Head the Zone13 Zonal Police Command, saying that the posting became necessary following the meritorious retirement of the former AIG, AIG, Ndidi Godwin Aghaulor.

According to the Zone 13 Spokesperson, ‘AIG Abayomi Peter Oladipo assumes duty on Tuesday, 18th March 2025 at the Zonal Headquarters Ukpo as the 8th substantive AIG of Police at the Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, Ukpo-Dunukofia LGA, in Anambra State.

‘A distinguished law enforcement officer, scholar, and international peacekeeper, AIG Abayomi stands as a beacon of excellence, integrity, and dedication in the Nigeria Police Force. Born on the 24th of April, 1966, in Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State into the Abayomi Family of the Brazilian Quarters, Moshalashi Olosun, his journey has been one of unwavering commitment to service and national security.

‘AIG Abayomi’s academic prowess is a testament to his passion for knowledge and self-improvement. He is a graduate of Philosophy from Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University) in 1986 and further honed his intellectual capabilities with a Master’s degree from the prestigious University of Lagos in 1989. In his continuous pursuit of excellence, he earned an LLB (Hons) from the National Open University in 2017, demonstrating his resolve for legal and administrative acumen.

‘His journey into law enforcement began in 1992 when he enlisted as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and underwent rigorous training at the esteemed Police Academy then in Kaduna. Since then, he has served in numerous pivotal capacities, including Officer in Charge of Police Formations, Divisional Crime Officer, and Divisional Police Officer (DPO) 1994 to 1999. His leadership acumen was further exemplified in the year 2000 when he became the pioneer Operations Commander for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in Oshodi.

‘An international officer of repute, AIG Abayomi, has served the global community in the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions across Kosovo (UNMIK); Sudan (UNMIS); and Darfur (UNMID). His expertise and professionalism in these roles underscored his versatility in handling complex security situations in multicultural environments.

‘In his illustrious career, he has undertaken a series of professional courses that have equipped him with a robust skill set. These include the C/ASP Officers Course (1992), Citizenship and Leadership Training (1993), Basic Internal Security Training (1993), Advanced Detective Course (1996), Train the Trainer Course (1998), Intermediate Command Course (2007), and the Senior Command Course (2017).

His commitment to professional excellence is further highlighted by his membership in esteemed organizations such as the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC), and the Institute of Transportation and Management Technology.

‘AIG Abayomi’s remarkable career trajectory saw him serving in various strategic roles, including DPO Alade Somolu and DPO Akodo. Later served as DPO Abayi and Osisioma in Aba, Abia state between 2007 and 2009. He was redeployed to Ogun state command and worked as CSP ‘ADMIN and later served as DPO Ibafo and Agbado Divisions of the Same Command.

In 2014, he was elevated to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police, serving in Zone 2, Lagos, as ACP in charge of Community Policing, and later ACP Finance and Administration for Delta State Police Command and Area Commander, Umuahia, Abia State.

‘Promoted to Deputy Commissioner of Police in 2018, AIG Abayomi held critical positions such as DC SCID Iyaganku, Ibadan, DC General Investigation, FCID Abuja, and DC PORTCID Apapa Ports, Lagos. His expertise in intelligence and investigation saw him serving as the head of the Force Intelligence Bureau, FHQ Annex, Lagos.

He was later appointed the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, where he served with distinction, conducting one of the most peaceful elections in the electioneering history of the State. Before his recent deployment as the AIG Zone 13 Ukpo – Dunukofia, Anambara state, he was the AIG Counter Terrorism Unit, FHQ, Abuja.

‘A leader defined by excellence, a mentor to many, and a security strategist, AIG Abayomi is a man whose resilience, discipline, and professionalism have contributed immensely to national and international security. Beyond his professional commitments, he is a devoted family man, happily married and blessed with wonderful children.

‘A sports enthusiast with expertise in badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, and fitness walking, he embodies the principles of discipline, endurance, and perseverance, both in his professional and personal life.

‘AIG Abayomi P. Oladipo is a thoroughly bred and experienced Police Officer who has zero tolerance for corruption and holds firmly to the principles of discipline. He brings a lot to bear as the AIG in charge of the Zone, overseeing Anambra and Enugu States.

‘The Zonal Command hereby requires the continued cooperation from Stakeholders, well-meaning Nigerians, especially the good people of Ndị-Anambra and Enugu, residents, all sister agencies within the Zone, the Medias, and publishers, to be accorded to the AIG and the Zonal Command in other for the AIG to discharge his official security duties, successfully.

‘The Nigeria Police Force reiterates a lasting commitment to the duty of ensuring that the lives and properties of the good people of the Zone are protected and that this duty will be discharged in line with international best practices of Policing standards and Human Rights laws adherence,’ Ihunwo concluded.
