Youths Kill OFour houses have been allegedly set ablaze and one person shot dead when some youths said to be from Achalla invaded a village in Urum, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The incident which happened on Monday, June 22, at about two o’clock in the afternoon caused panic in the community.
An eye witness, Mr Ifeanyi Oragwuna told Fides Newspaper that some armed men suspected to be from Achalla Community invaded them and started shooting sporadically.
He said the situation caused panic as the entire village ran out for safety in neighbouring towns.
The President General of Urum, Chief Mathew Nwodo expressed worry over the development despite the earlier intervention of both Commissioner of police, Mr. John Abang and other stakeholders in the area.
Chief Nwodo narrated that a few weeks ago, some youths said to be from Achalla allegedly invaded Urum, killing one person and injuring seven persons over a land dispute.
He, therefore, appealed for urgent security beef up in the area and government intervention in the lingering land matters in the area.
All effort made by Fides to reach the President General Of Achalla, Mr. Boniface Okadigbo was not successful as his phone lines were not reachable.
When Fides, contacted the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr Haruna Muhammed said he was going to contact the Police Area Command in charge of the area for prompt action.
