…Receives Nat Accreditation Team of NMCN for Proposed Regina Caeli College of Nursing Sciences, Awka

    By Fr Constantine Echichechi

The Catholic Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, true to his unique interest in the integral development of the human person, has assured the members of the Accreditation Team of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NMCN, that the Diocese of Awka is intentional about the wellbeing and development of Nigerian children.

The Bishop made this known while receiving at his office at the Catholic Secretariat, Awka on Wednesday, 19th February, the members of the Accreditation Team of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, as well as the Anambra State Chapter. According to the leader of the team, Dr. Olubunmi Adeola Lawal, the team came for the assessment and possible accreditation of the proposed Regina Caeli College of Nursing Sciences owned by the Catholic Diocese of Awka.

‘We are here to access and see what you have for the suitability of the training of Nurses in Nigeria,’ Dr. Lawal delightedly said. She explained that examination of the facilities established by the Catholic Diocese of Awka for the beginning of the College was necessary, as that would ensure that the College was adequately prepared for the much-desired excellence in the field of health.

Speaking in that regard, the Bishop who is also the proprietor of Regina Caeli College of Nursing Sciences, assured the team that the interest of the Diocese in going into such field of human development was that socio-economic indices around showed that the training of young people was paramount and that the health of the nation guaranteed, to a large extent, the wealth of the nation.

According to the Bishop: ‘Watching the signs of the time, our concern has been what will make our children to live out the potentialities in them.’

Emphasizing his duty as a father and pastor of souls, the Bishop moralized that every service done today had effects. According to Bishop Ezeokafor who is an expert in Moral Theology, ‘We shall account for our efforts towards these children, especially how we helped them become what God wants them to be.’

He thus envisioned that the common concern for all that was being done, was to work for the progress of the young ones around whose future must be carefully marked and charted.

Hopeful that the accreditation exercise would be a success, he recalled that Peter University of Achina/Onneh which was floated by the Old Awka Diocese was proof that the Church was interested in the development of the young ones.

‘Once we are permitted to start, the Diocese will not fail in her mission of upholding excellence,’ the Bishop concluded.

In a similar vein, the Administrator of the College, Rev. Fr. Johnpaul Chukwuelobe, filled with hope that the accreditation would be a successful one, thanked the Bishop for always taking the giant leap in ensuring that training of the young ones was properly done. He also thanked the team for their presence and attention to details.

‘I am happy that this is happening around me and I am pleased to be allowed to serve the Church and humanity in this regard,’ the highly industrious Administrator affirmed.

Before the end of the visit which had the presence of the Chancellor and Secretary of the Diocese of Awka and the Board Chairman of the College, Rev. Fr. Dr. Charles Ndubisi, the Bishop prayed for the team and wished them well in their assessment of the facilities in place for the accreditation of Regina Caeli College of Nursing Sciences.
