As part of his continuous campaign for credible elections, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese has charged the electorate to vote in healthy, mentally sound and credible candidates as leaders into various elective positions.
Bishop Ezeokafor gave the charge in his homily at the concelebrated Holy Mass for the Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria (CYON), Awka Diocese Skills/Talents Hunt and Choir Competitions held at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka on February 3, 2019.
Speaking at the event which doubled as fund raising for the proposed CYON N2OM table/sachet water project, the bishop maintained that anybody who would be Nigeria’s president must be a healthy person who should be mentally sound and mentally alert and not someone not in control of his senses.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who stressed the need for all to vote wisely for a better Nigeria, exhorted the electorate to vote credible candidates and people of integrity who would deliver in their various elective positions.
‘Do not vote for money, lest you mortgage your future for the next four years. Ensure you vote wisely and responsibly,’ he charged.
The bishop described as the worst set of people, those who would not learn from experience and urged the electorate to vote candidates based on their antecedents. This was even as he observed that if the current Nigerian Government could with impunity, allow the infringement on people’s right to freedom of religion and killing of Christians in its first tenure, the worst would be the case in a second tenure.
He called on concerned electorate to do the needful and sustain, as well as link Anambra State with the federal government for optimum development. This was even as he prayed for elections that would be free, fair, transparent, credible and acceptable.
The Catholic prelate, who exhorted the youths against election thuggery, flayed politicians who lured the children of others into the menace, saying that such vice could mar the future of the youths.
