The 3rd Session of the 12th Synod of the Diocese of Abuja holding at St. Philips Anglican Church, Gwarinpa, Abuja, has ended with Venerable Oluwaseun Owoeye underscoring the urgent and vital call for families to commit to serving the Lord.
He emphasized this call as both a profound choice and a divine mandate.
The theme for the Synod this year is ‘Serve the Lord: Imperative for the family under God’ (Joshua 24:14-25).
Drawing inspiration from Joshua’s timeless declaration in Joshua 24:15, the preacher passionately expounded on the importance of intentional dedication to God within the family unit. The core message highlighted that serving the Lord is fundamentally a personal and family decision, requiring deliberate will and unwavering determination.
“Serving God is not accidental; it demands an inner resolve,” he stated, urging every believer to consciously choose this path. The sermon also stressed that this commitment is a significant responsibility, cautioning that providing children with the best in education or material possessions without prioritizing Jesus Christ is ultimately “disastrous.”
Furthermore, he emphasized that serving God is a non-negotiable mandate, making obedience to Him not optional but a divine command. He noted actionable steps for families to ensure their household genuinely serves the Lord, including intentional discipleship, leading by example, prioritizing the gospel message, following biblical marriage principles, and making the Word of God their anchor.
By following these principles, families can build a strong foundation for their spiritual lives and serve the Lord in everyday life, he added.
Venerable Owoeye concluded the sermon by passionately encouraging Christian families to make the Word of God their anchor at all times, serving as their steadfast and firm foundation.
The message served as a powerful reminder of the enduring call for families to wholeheartedly embrace their divine purpose by serving the Lord.
