The Vicar, Church of The Holy Spirit, Awka, Ven. Dr. Onyeka Egwuonwu, last Sunday celebrated his birthday, urging Christians to put their talents to use for the good of humanity.

In his sermon, Ven. Dr. Egwuonwu, who is also the Archdeacon, Church of the Holy Spirit, CHS, Awka Archdeaconry, warned that money was the least of what God had given His people as talents.

He preached against short cuts to success and progress in life, noting that it backfired, just as he recommended courage and truth in the presence of intimidation and gang ups.

He warned against misusing opportunities and having a negative mindset or comparing oneself with others as there was no such thing in God’s dictionary.

Ven Dr. Onyeka Egwuonwu warned against murmuring and complaints while rendering service in God’s vineyard or to humanity, assuring that since there was always a day of reward.

He disabused the minds of Christians who had the mindset that the ultimate rewards were not coming, urging them to do good without ceasing as God did not forget to reward.

He encouraged Christians to multiply the gifts God had given them in service to God and humanity, noting that the greatest enemy of mankind lived within the mindset.

Speaking on the theme: “Proportionate reward awaits all”, Ven. Dr. Egwuonwu reminded the congregation that words could destroy or encourage, hence the need for Christians to watch what they said, and how they said them, even as he urged for forgiving spirit among Christians, exhorting them to protect others by being selfless.

Meanwhile it was a solemn affair for the family of Mrs. Chebelu Nwogo Nkiruka who led members of the Joy Family to thank God at the altar for her son, Master Chebelu Chiemelie Favour C., who turned 15 years on 9th November 2025, just as they thanked God for His preservation for 10 years as a widow.

The occasion also witnessed the 48th birthday anniversary of the Vicar, CHS Awka, and Archdeacon, CHS Awka Archdeaconry, Ven.Dr. Egwuonwu, as priests in the vineyard, led by Rev. Engr. Chijioke Anaemena, prayed for God’s sustenance for the Vicar in all ramifications.

The Vicar was flanked by wife, Nneora Barr. Chioma Egwuonwu, who is the Vice President, Mother’s Union; Women’s Guild; Girls’ Guild; and Young Wives Diocese of Awka. She turned 40 recently.

This is coming as the entire CHS Awka rejoiced for Reverend Godwin Okonkwo who became a full priest of the Anglican Communion, Diocese of New Bussa, Kwara State.

The Priestly Trinity ordination of Reverend Godwin Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo by His Grace, Most Reverend Israel Afolabi Amoo JP LLB (Hons), Bishop of New Bussa and Archbishop of Kwara Province, took place at St John’s Anglican Church, New Bussa, Kwara State on October 26th, 2025.
