. . New DVC Academic, Postgraduate Dean Elected

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Prof Charles Esimone, has approved the appointment of some key officers in the institution.

Those appointed included, Makinde Peter Oyewole, Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Kingsley Ikechukwu Ubaoji – Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor (Academic Matters) and Dr. Kenneth Ngwuoke – Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor (Information Communications Technology, ICT).

The appointments, according to the Vice Chancellor, are with effect from June 10, 2019.

Meanwhile, Professor Frederick Odibo of the Department of Applied Microbiology and Professor Philomena Igbokwe of the Department of Chemical Engineering have been elected as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies of Nnamdi Azikwe University.

A release signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations/Chief Protocol Officer of the University, Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu said the duo were elected at the 196th Emergency Senate Meeting of the University presided by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Esimone.

Prof. Odibo emerged DVC (Academic) after polling a total of 198 votes out of the 219 votes cast. Professor Vincent Ajiwe of Pure and Industrial Chemistry scored only 4 votes while 17 votes were declared invalid. Professor Odibo is currently the Director, Academic Planning of the University.

In the election of the Dean, Postgraduate School, Professor Philomena Igbokwe polled a total of 122 votes to defeat her fellow contender, Professor A.B.C. Chiegboka, who polled 97 votes. Professor Ikechukwu Okoli who had earlier applied to contest withdrew before the commencement of the election.

Professor Igbokwe was a former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and has been acting as Dean of the Postgraduate school since 2018.
