Umuanuta Kindred, Uruoji Village Nri, Dissociates Self from Misleading Publication

By Jude Atupulazi

The Umuanuta Kindred of Uruoji Village, Nri in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State, has taken exception to what it describes as a spurious and ill intended publication titled, ”All the Villages in Nri”, in which Umuanuta Kindred was left out.

In a letter addressed to the Chairman of Uruoji Village, Nri, Umuanuta Kindred accused the co-authors of mischievously not mentioning Umuanuta as a kindred of Uruoji Village because they intended to further add to the confusion in the village and the town when the peace of the town was being managed. They accused the authors of misleading and misinforming the people of the town.

The letter was signed by John Jideobi (chairman, Umuanuta Kindred, Uruoji Village, Nri); and Emma Nwonwu (secretary, Umuanuta Kindred, Uruoji Village, Nri) and copied to the President General, Nri Progressive Union, NPU; the Chairman of Nze Na Ozo Nri; and Oba Mmaduka Arubaluezeama (Okwudolu Nri).

The letter went thus, ‘Our attention has been drawn to the above subject published on page 155 to 164 of Omenana Na Odinana Nri, written by one Chukwudi Nwokoye and one Charles Chizoba Chukwurah, as co-authors, in which Umuanuta Kindred of Uruoji Village, Nri, was conspicuously and mischievously not mentioned as a kindred of Uruoji Village with the intent to rabble rouse the already existing problems in the village and Nri Community in general that is being managed for peaceful resolution.

‘The Umuanuta Kindred of Uruoji Village therefore wish to clearly and unequivocally express our disappointment at the ignorance of the authors of the book here above mentioned and we hereby resolve to state our position on the matter.

‘That Nri Town so far, has six villages which are: Agbadana Village; Uruoji Village; Obeagu Village; Uruofolo Village; Diodo Village; and Ekwenaanyika Villgae.

‘That the four kindreds that make up Uruoji Village are: Umuanuta Kindred; Umuesona Kindred; Umunriomalo Kindred; and Umunrievuzo Kindred.

‘We would not like to go into the controversies and ridiculous procedural errors and fiasco that surrounded the purported Anuta Village creation, since the matter is with a court of competent jurisdiction to avoid any act of contempt of court until judgement on the matter is given.

‘Of course, the authors agreed on pages 24 and 25 of the book that there are three villages in Agukwu section of Nri when they stated that there are two Ogwemuo units in Agukwu section (Ogwemuo one and Ogwemuo two) for easy administration of ichi Ozo in Nri in which case only Agbadana Village, Obeagu Village and Uruoji Village Kindreds made up the Ogwemuo.

‘Now, in which Ogwe Muo does the so-called Anuta Village belong? This is to further expose their mischief and mission to set confusion in the town. But those who stir up the spring, will themselves drink the dirty water. The Umuanuta Kindred of Uruoji Village, Nri, therefore, dissociate ourselves from the spurious publication as it is misleading, misinforming and grossly ill-intended.’
