The senatorial candidate of Young Peoples’ Party, YPP, for Anambra Central in the 2023 General Elections, Chief Dr Chinedu Umeadi, plans to launch YPP to state and national prominence.
Umeadi spoke to Fides in the aftermath of his election by the party in Anambra State as its leader. His election followed an Extraordinary State Executive meeting, in conjunction with the 21 LGA party Chairman and their Secretaries, held on October 11 at the Party’s State Secretariat, Awka.
Dr Umeadi, who is the Anambra State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) 2024 Man of the Year nominee, owing to his service to humanity and community development, disclosed plans to expand the number of YPP’s members in both the state and national assembly, as well as put up a good show at next year’s Governorship Election in Anambra.
‘As a leader of the party, I’m expected to galvanize the party to victory in the next Governorship Election in Anambra and I think the party knows I have the capacity and capability to do that and that’s exactly what I’m going to do,’ he assured.
Umeadi, while thanking his party members in Anambra for electing him as their leader, promised not to disappoint, noting that the coming guber election in the state would be a testing ground for him to show what his true intentions for the party were.
‘Today, we have two House of Reps members in the Green Chambers and about three members in the Anambra House of Assembly. I know that with time, we will have at least five members in the Green Chambers and return back to the senate we also had and as many as ten members in the state assembly.
‘With the support of the party members which I already have, I’m going to achieve that. I’m committed to seeing YPP work in Anambra State, Southeast and Nigeria,’ Umeadi assured.
Umeadi, Fides gathered, has been a devoted YPP member who has resisted all attempts by other parties to woe him into their camps.
