The Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the November 8 Governorship Election in Anambra State, Prince Dr Nicholas Ukachukwu, has pledged to end the lingering communal conflicts ravaging Ayamelum Local Government Area of the State if he wins the election.
Prince Ukachukwu made the pledge on Tuesday, June 17, at Anaku, the Headquarters of the LGA, during an event organized by an illustrious son of the community, Chief Nobert Ikechukwu Nebife, in his honour.
Ukachukwu, who told the people of Anaku that he came to appreciate them and the entire Ayamelum People for supporting his candidacy, attributed the cause of the lingering communal conflicts to lack of clear boundary demarcations between communities in the area.
‘We have decided that when I became the Governor, within first week in office, we will set up a committee that will establish boundaries between you and other communities, so that peace will reign between you people and your neighbours.
‘My Deputy will chair that committee to avoid bribery and unnecessary stories thereafter,’ he said.
Ukachukwu further assured Anaku People that his government would provide to them a functional hospital, pipe-borne water, roads leading to farms, hybrid seeds for bumper farm produce, modern farming tools, farming grants, among others.
He promised to rebuild the long neglected Onitsha-Otuocha-Ayamelum-Adani-Kog-Abuja Road, a project, he described as connecting Anambra to the centre.
The APC Candidate urged the Anaku People to put everything he had promised in writing so that they could hold him by his words when he came again to them for campaign, saying he came to make a covenant with them and not to talk like a politician.
Earlier in his remarks, the host, Chief Nebife, described the coming of the APC Candidate to Ayamelum LGA as a thing of joy and beauty for the Anaku and Ayamelum People.
Nebife, who is an APC chieftain and famous philanthropist in Ayamelum LGA, assured Dr Ukachukwu of the total support of Ayamelum People for his governorship ambition.
While welcoming Ukachukwu and his team on behalf of the Anaku People, the President General of the community, Mr Paul Nwuba, prayed for him, wishing him success, favour, and divine guidance.
The event which took place at the Central Primary School’s Field, Anaku, attracted the heavy presence of the APC members in Ayamelum LGA; support groups, which included the Sustenance of Faith in Governance, Ayamelum Chapter; both men and women Elders Council of the Anaku Community, among others.
The presence and performance of various masquerades and cultural music of the community added glamour to the event, entertaining Ukachukwu and his team, which included his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife; the State Chairman of the party, Chief Basil Ejidike; among other critical stakeholders of the party in the state.
