Ubah’s Death Big Blow to Sports – SWAN

By Jude Atupulazi

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter has described the sudden demise of the Senator representing Anambra South District, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, as a big blow to sports and football in particular. The Anambra State Chairman of SWAN, Mr Patrick Anaso, disclosed this in a press statement he signed and which was made available to Fides.

In the statement, SWAN, Anambra Chapter, expressed grief over the sudden demise of Ifeanyi Ubah, a billionaire oil mogul, who died in London on July 26 at the age of 52.

The association said Ubah, through his involvement in sports, brought fame and fortune to many youths, as well as joy to the hearts of not just sports lovers in Anambra, but the entire country.

‘It is hard to say goodbye this early, our dear distinguished senator. We had looked forward to your continued impactful involvement in football.

‘You bestrode the landscape of football in Anambra like a colossus and your footprints are indelible. You took Anambra to the world with FC Ifeanyi Ubah; your massive FCIU Stadium, Nnewi, remains a legacy that will last for a long time.

‘As a body of sports writers in Anambra, we will miss you greatly just as we pray that your soul finds rest in the bosom of the Lord Almighty,’ Anaso stated in the release.

It will be recalled that Ubah was the Chairman of Anambra State Football Association between 2015 and 2019 and Founder of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, one of the most successful football clubs from Anambra State, now defunct.
