It was jubilation across Awka Diocese as Ven Dr Onyeka Egwuonwu, Vicar of the Church of The Holy Spirit, Awka got a new Archdeaconry attached to his elevation as Archdeacon. He is now incharge of CHS Archdeaconry, Awka.
Archbishop Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim PhD announced this during Awka Diocesan Board Meeting.
This is coming as the Vicar CHS has this to say about Pentecost Sunday.
“Pentecost Sunday, Anniversary of the Empowerment of the New Testament Church by the Holy Spirit. Originally in the Anglican Lectionary, it was called Whitsun before it was recently called Pentecost Sunday.
“Whitsun was so called because of the white color for the vestments and white clothes of the worshippers which made everywhere looked white and as a result, the Sunday was called White Sunday, abbreviated Whitsun.
Later on, in the Church of Nigeria Lectionary, the change was noticed, from Whitsun to the current and more prominent Pentecost Sunday. However, Pentecost was just a Jewish religious day for Harvest. It was the day recorded in the Bible when God empowered the Apostles by His Spirit- The Holy Spirit.
“What should be more important to us is the Holy Spirit and His Work in the Church; in us and among us.
“The Apostles noticed the Presence of the Holy Spirit in a sign which they couldn’t exactly describe; what looked like a flame of fire upon their heads. The mitre on the heads of the Bishops is the symbolism of the flame.
“The evidence of the Presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives was the boldness to speak the truth to those who they were afraid to meet, their fellow Jews. The Holy Spirit removes fear. Fear is against the Faith. Fear is a satanic weapon. It makes people cowards. Remember that Cowards will go to Hell.
“Holy Spirit gives utterances. Holy utterances. People make foolish, unnecessary and unhealthy utterances that do not build. Holy Spirit gives Utterances that build faith, love, peace etc.
“The Apostles were noticed together, as one Holy Family. The Spirit held them together. They were not divided in teaching and belief. The Spirit guided them into the Truth. The community life of the Church is a result of the impact of the Holy Spirit. A divisive/discordant Church is an evil attacked Church. A Holy Spirit empowered life does not seek his own good but the good of others. Seeking the good of others promotes a unified Church.
“Church of the Holy Spirit where the Holy Spirit is empowering People to live like God.
Church of The Holy Spirit had Holy communion service at 6:30am and Confirmation/Admission at 9am. Archbishop Ibezim attended the 9am service.
