Valentine Day is popularly celebrated globally every February 14. According to the academic time table for secondary schools in Nigeria, students are supposed to be in their classrooms during this year’s Valentine day celebration.

School Run Princess sampled the thoughts of some students of St Anthony’s Catholic Comprehensive Institute Agulu, on the meaning of Valentine.

ANAGOR LOVELYN Ss3 (AGULU)

“Valentine day is a day people find so special to give gifts and presents to their loved ones. It reminds us of a saint called Valentine, who was a cheerful giver and who died because of love of others. People, especially young boys and girls, as well as young couples are anxious for the val day because they know it is full of fun, excitement, enjoyment and surprises. But don’t ask me the type of enjoyment ooo. Hahaha!!! HAPPY VAL!”

EZEIBEDU JOSEPHINE OGOCHUKWU (PRINCESS), JSS 3, (AGULU)

“Valentine is a day when we remember a saint called Valentine. He cared and loved the sick when he was on earth. This is why Valentine’s Day is also known as lover’s day because St Val was an epitome of love. Wishing all readers Happy Val!!!

MBAH OGOCHUKWU ROSEMARY, JSS 3, (AGULU)

“Hahaha!!! Valentine Day?. Well, it is the day we remember St Valentine for his good works on earth. It is also the day we show true love (agape-love of God) to one another. It is also the day for charity work and showing love to one another. Happy Valentine Day to us all!”

LIVINUS CHIOMAPERPETUA, JSS 3 (NANKA)

“Valentine day is a day we celebrate a great saint called Valentine. It is also a day we show agape love especially to the homeless, helpless and the motherless babies like St Valentine. It is called Lovers day. Happy Val!”

OLUCHI TONIA, JSS 3 (AGULU)

“As a matter of fact, Valentine’s day is a global celebration that involves all classes of people both young and old. On the day of valentine, we show love by visiting orphanages and prisons to assist those we are better than in terms of welfare. We share what we call Agape love. Some people buy gifts for their loved ones. Thanks.”

SOPHIA OLUEBUBE, JSS 3 (AGULU)

“Well, I understand that Valentine day is when we celebrate one of the saints called Valentine. We remember his life full of love and kindness. Some call it lovers day, but I understand that it is not the love of the flesh but Agape love, which is more universal. The world celebrates this day every February 14”

DIVINE OLUEBUBE JSS 3 (NANKA)

“Valentine is a day of celebration during which people share love and gifts among themselves. It is a day of remembering the needy, sick and the poor. They are visited by many organizations in the society with many gifts so as to show them love and make them forget their sorrows. Valentine day is also seen as lovers’ day and not for violence or conflict. It is celebrated on February 14 every year. HAPPY VALENTINE EVERYONE!!!”

OFODILE STELLA (PRINCESS), SS3 (OBELEDU)

“Actually I believe we all know what Valentine day means. But in my own words, it is a day we remember a great saint called Valentine. It is also a day we show agape love to people especially the widows, orphans and others alike. It is celebrated on February 14 every year and known as lovers day because St Valentine was an epitome of love. HAPPY VALENTINE
TO YOU ALL. Thanks”
