By Abuchi Onwumelu

The newly elected state officers of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) Anambra State Chapter, led by Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe, has ended its ongoing familiarization tour of the 21 LGAs with a promise to attend to the challenges of the workers and ensure good working relationship between the LG workers and the Management Staff.

The State President of NULGE Anambra State, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe, disclosed this at the office of the Transition Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Council, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu, during the Union’s courtesy visit to his office.

The State President of NULGE thanked the Council Workers for finding him and his team worthy to serve the Union through their fervent prayers and effective participation in what he described as the most transparent and peaceful NULGE Delegate election held in November, 2019.

Comrade Adigwe, who noted that the plight of the workers would remain paramount in his administration, urged workers to be of good behavior and equally adhere strictly to the government policies and programmes for improved LG system.

The Union boss who also extolled Governor Willie Obiano for harmonization of the state and LG workers’ salaries, advocated for urgent recruitment of staff in the LG system as the System had only 17 years to fizzle out if care was not taken.

He further emphasized the need for provision of operational vehicles for the Heads of LG Administration as being done with their state counterparts. This, according to him, would ensure efficiency and effective service delivery in the system.

Comrade Adigwe highlighted some of the Union programmess for the year which include organisation of the late Comrade Agadaga Memorial Lecture, organisation of the NULGE Week, establishment of relaxation centre at the NULGE secretariat Awka, award presentation to outstanding retired and serving council staff, introduction of motor cycle loan scheme, among others, adding that the Union was ever ready to do more with their support and prayers.

In his remarks, the Transition Chairman of Ogbaru LG, Hon Arinze Awogu, welcomed the Union leaders for the familiarization tour to his office and pledged his total support and cooperation to enable the Union achieve its set objectives.

Hon Awogu described the present leadership of the Union as comprising focused and dedicated leaders who had come to salvage the Union from the shackles of under development and backwardness.

The Council Chairman while addressing the team, thanked Governor Willie Obiano for listening to the workers’ voice by bridging the salary disparity between the State and LG workers, which, according to him, was a great relief to the LG system.

Responding on behalf of the Ogbaru Council Workers, the Head of LG Administration, Mrs Rita Obuekwe, commended the leadership qualities and style of the present leadership of NULGE in the state and advised them to continue to be more transparent and carry every staff along by ensuring effective flow of information and by keeping all workers abreast of the Union’s activities always.
