St Patrick’s College Awka To Represent Anambra At National Quiz –

Saint Patrick’s College Awka will represent Anambra State at the ninth edition of the National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy organized by the National Institute For Legislative And Democratic Studies (NILDS) in Abuja.

Saint Patrick’s College clinched the slot after beating other five schools that participated in the competition that held in Awka, Anambra State capital.

Declaring the competition open, the Speaker, Anambra State House Of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze said the competition is an important platform to engage the youths who are the future leaders and empower them with the knowledge and understanding of legislative processes and democratic values.

The Speaker who was represented by the Chairman, House Committee On Education, Hon. Anayo Okpalaeke maintained that all round quality education is paramount in the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration, stating that in order to ensure no child is left out, he introduced free education in all public schools in the state and recruited quality teachers to ensure quality teaching in schools in the state.

The Director General of the National Institute For Legislative and Democratic Studies, National Assembly, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman represented by an ICT Officer of the institute, Mrs. Ogechukwu Onyeaku said as an initiative of the National Assembly, the competition will stimulate the interest of the young students in politics and make them more proactive in matters relating to the legislature and democracy.

“The objectives of the competition are to provide continued education on the legislative arms of government; broaden the knowledge of the students and youths on the history; and encourage deeper understanding of civic and democratic governance,” he stated.

On his part, the Desk Officer representing the State Ministry of Education, Mr Ikedi Udeaja said they expect that St Patrick’s College, Awka will do the state proud as the state government under Governor Soludo has invested heavily in the education sector.

Messrs Chinonso Nduba and Esther Chude from Saint Patrick’s College, Awka promised to make Anambra State proud and commended the organizers of the competition for the opportunity.

The objectives of the competition are to provide continued education on the legislative arms of government; broaden the knowledge of the students and youths on the history; and encourage deeper understanding of civic and democratic governance.
