… Fr. Muomegha Charges 20 Newly Wedded Couples

In a historic episode at St Mary’s Parish Nimo, Saturday 7 December 2024, no fewer than 20 couples received the Sacrament of Matrimony in a mass wedding celebration sponsored by Noble Lady Chinwe Mgbajiaka, Reports Fr Robert Anagboso

A new height of spiritual life was experienced in the parish Church of St Mary’s Nimo, when 20 couples were joyfully joined in sacramental marriage to the cheering and applause of both the families and friends of the couples, and the entire parishioners as the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Innocent Muomegha, received the consent of the individual brides and bride grooms.

Reflecting on the gospel passage of John Chapter 2, verses 1 – 11, Fr Innocent enjoined the couples to emulate the couple of Cana in Galilee who invited Jesus and His Mother, Mary, to their wedding. The presence of the blessed persons brought about one of the most stupendous miracles of Jesus – turning water into Wine – His first miracle. “Were it not that this couple invited Jesus and His Mother, their wedding would have ended shamefully,” Fr. Muomegha added.

Continuing, the Parish Priest maintained that the presence of Jesus and Mary saved this couple because when the wine for the wedding celebration finished, no one knew what to do. The mother of Jesus noticed the impending doom. She went to her Son, Jesus, and reported the ugly situation. She then went back to the servers with the instruction “Do whatever he tells you”.

“In your new homes” Fr Innocent addressed the couple ‘take Jesus and His Mother, Mary with you, and you will never be put to shame, and you will never run out of wine of happiness, peace and love, in fact, wine of whatever good you desire he concluded.

The mass wedding which saw couples from even the neighboring parishes and towns like Abagana, was one of a kind. It was a parish spiritual and pastoral activity ably supported and sponsored by Noble Lady Chinwe Mgbajiaka, the Supreme Subordinate Auxiliary President of the Knights of St John International, Nigeria.

Representing her at the occasion, Noble Lady Rose Ekwenibe described Lady Mgbajiaka as a consummate Noble Lady of Knight of St John International Nigeria and a Christian who had put her means and position to spreading the gospel of Christ and bringing people to the Catholic faith. Going further, Lady Ekwenibe maintained that “Lady Mgbajika is from this parish (ie St Mary’s Parish Nimo), she has been doing this type of sponsorship.

She thought it wise to bring it to her home parish. She would have been here in person, but for some international engagement. We are happy that she brought this one home, and God bless her and the Knights of St John International, Nigeria.

After the wedding Mass, other highlights of the occasion included group photographs of the wedded couples, cutting of the mass wedding cake and common reception. It was all joy and grandiose.
