. . . Words of advice and encouragement from School Run
By Chinecherem Efobi
On Friday, 7th February 2020, School Run paid St. Augustine Secondary School, Ichida a surprise visit just immediately after their Friday sports activities. School Run caught them doing all kinds of sports at the temporary school compound.
At the Assembly Ground, School Run learnt that the school was still residing at the Hall of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ichida temporarily. The school management then took School Run to their new school site in that same Ubulu Village in Ichida, Anaocha LGA, Anambra State.
School Run gave some words of advice and encouragement to the students praying that the Almighty will surely see them through in their new building project.
An interactive session with School Run was held, whereby students and staff shared their challenges and the help they needed in the school.
St. Augustine’s Secondary School Ichida was established on 22nd of September 2014 by Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Anaekee. The pioneer Principal was Mr. Innocent Ezeonwuka, while Mrs. Elizabeth Akposionu was the Vice Principal. The co-educational school started with 46 students and 10 hard working staff. Today, the school has over 145 confident students. The students have performed creditably well in many areas.
Specifically, the school had a shot at BECE 2017, and subsequently sat for BECE in 2018 and 2019. Many students significantly made 6As and above in the academic competition.
In 2016, the school took the third position in the Awka Diocesan School Quiz Competition. In 2017, it took part in the Diocesan Mathematics Competition and came first in the Junior category. The school went to challenge others in old Onitsha Province and out of 21 positions, placed 5th at the regional level, and remained champion for two consecutive years at the junior category, among other glories.
The school has secured a piece of land for building the dormitory. Work on the academic complex is nearing completion. The school plans to move into the site next academic year to allow a steady growth of this young but promising institution.
A new manger Rev. Fr. Stephen Echezona has been officially posted to the school with effect from this 2019/20 academic session. With God on the school side, we pray it shall jointly work together to take the school to greater height.
