The members of the Association Heads of Local Government Administration, Anambra State Chapter, have extolled the leadership qualities of the State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Comrade Chikwelu Adigwe, and his team.
According to them, they came to appreciate him and other executive members for bringing back what they described as the lost glory of the Union through laudable programmes and activities aimed at improving the welfare of the serving and retied council Staff.
The leaders of the Association, Comrade Dr Tony Anadi and Chief Richard Obi, stated this during the courtesy visit of the Association to the State President of NULGE Comrade in his office in Awka.
The Association leaders who commended the Union leaders for establishing a synergy and good cordial relationship between the state EXCOS and the retired HLGAs, also thanked the delegates from the 21 LGAs for conducting what it called the most peaceful and transparent NULGE election in the State.
Responding, the State President of NULGE, Comrade Adigwe, promised to attend to the problems and challenges of the retired LG workers, adding that their partnership with the Union leaders would go a long way to establish a viable local government system.
Comrade Adigwe noted that the elevation of the HLGAs to GL17 by Governor Willie Obiano was a welcome development and called for approval for operational vehicles for the HLGAs as being done with their state counterparts.
Comrade Adigwe further enumerated some of the NULGE programmes for the year to include organisation of the 2020 NULGE Week celebration, award presentation to outstanding workers, recognition of the outstanding retired and deceased LG Staff, recognition of the first female acting secretary/chairman of the commission, Comrade Eugenia Odika, among others.
The State President also promised to be transparent and to run an open door policy administration and adhere strictly to the advice of the elders while discharging his duties.
In a vote of thanks, the State Deputy President of NULGE, Comrade Austin Nwafor, thanked them for identifying with the union leaders for improved welfare of the workers, which, according to him, would take the local government system to greater heights
