The retired Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, on Monday, 29th April 2024, at the Police Command Headquarters, Amawbia, recounted his encounters – the dangerous moments and safe moments – in the course of his profession over the years, and said only the grace of God saved him.
Speaking with Journalists at the Police Command, Amawbia, Adeoye said only God saved him when he was posted to fight militancy in the Niger Delta for five years; Boko Haram for one and a half years and Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) in Anambra State.
His words, ‘It is to the glory of God that with gun shots and bombs, I did not have a scar.’
Part of what led to his success, he said, was that he had served in Anambra for 10 years under seven Commissioners of Police.
Adeoye however, thanked the country for the opportunity offered him to go places while serving in the force.
According to him, the trainings he received while serving prepared him to face retirement.
For instance, he said, the financial education he received from many courses he attended, led to the founding of an investment club, Alpha Trust Investment Club (ATIC) in 2018.
He said the club currently had investments worth over N20 billion, and that as he retired, he was going into the business full time, jokingly remarking that he was set to give Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote a run for his money.
Adeoye praised Anambra People, describing them as enterprising, warm and hospitable. He added, ‘I will never open my mouth and talk ill of Anambra State.’
He also said he enjoyed the hospitality of the people leading to his being decorated with two Chieftaincy titles in Anambra State: one at Ogbunka and another at Omasi. He also praised his wife Rebecca, for her support.
Earlier, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, praised his boss, describing him as a thoroughbred professional.
