Precautionary Measures against Coronavirus in Place – Orumba South LG Boss, FCE (T) Provost Assure

Sequel to the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus in China and its recent entrance in Nigeria through an Italian expatriate, the Orumba South LG Boss, Hon Raymond Onyegu, has assured the people of Orumba South LGA that precautionary measures are place to ensure that the people of the area are free from the deadly disease.

Barr. Onyegu who spoke to Fides on Sunday, March 1, at the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, said that massive sensitization exercise had commenced at the LGA to teach the people of the area the standard health and hygiene measures which must be adopted to ensure their safety.

He disclosed that the inter-Agency meeting which was held over the week that involved the state Ministry of Health, State Primary Care Agency and Local Government Department of Health, looked extensively on basic health preventive techniques, habits to be developed, styles to be adopted to prevent contacting the infections, basic principles of public health; such as regular hand washing, use of hand sanitizers, maintaining a reasonable distance from others and closing of one’s nostrils while sneezing.

He said the health departments that were part of the meeting had commenced sensitization in a bid to spread the information received at the meeting to the least person in Orumba South LGA.

He said the LG health department, together with what the State government had put in place, was alive to its responsibility as it pertained to the issue at hand. He urged the people of the area to adopt the measures which had been developed by experts in the field of health, saying that such would ensure they were safe from the deadly virus.

For her part, the Provost of Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze, Dr. Tessy Okoli, described its entrance into the nation as scary, noting that a policy statement had been made available to the students through the director of the medical centre. She beckoned on the students to keep safe hygiene and adopt the preventive measures to keep themselves free from the disease that currently had no cure.

She charged the students to always keep hand sanitizers within their reach and stated that it would be made available within strategic places at the College for people to easily make use of. She maintained that all hands must be deck for the total eradication of the deadly virus to be achieved.
