Following the incessant and worrisome wave of kidnapping and other heinous crimes in the state, the President General of Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU) Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, on Tuesday, accused politicians of fueling and sponsoring insecurities in Anambra State in order to discredit the incumbent Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, wondering what they intend to achieve with what he described as callous and mindless acts.
Comrade Okoli, who stated this in a meeting tagged ”Anambra at 33, I believe in Anambra Declaration and I Believe In Anambra Campaign”, held at ASATU Secretariat Hall, Awka, announced that the body would soon embark on a rally across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State to drive home their grievances over the continued kidnapping, cult related activities, get-rich-quick syndrome, drug abuse and raping of hapless and unsuspecting Ndi Anambra.
‘We, the youths of Anambra State, are saying enough is enough to kidnapping, cultism, drug abuse and rape. It has gotten to an alarming proportion and we will no longer fold our hands and watch our kith and kin being taking hostage on daily basis. ASATU Youth will move around to express our grievance and make our position known by all. Our people are now living in fear. They are no longer moving around for fear of being harmed or kidnapped.
‘These kidnappers are our brothers and sisters. Those killing and maiming our people are equally our people, they are known. They are from our various communities. They have informants and foot soldiers all over the state who are feeding them with information they operate with.
‘As part of our resolve towards ”I believe In Anambra”, we are going to mobilize 2 million Ndi Anambra all over the world to sign up for the Anambra Project. Anambra is ours and we Serve Anambra,’ he said.
The ASATU Youth President charged Anambra Youths to take ownership of their state by shunning acts capable of endangering their future and key into the numerous initiatives of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, especially the ongoing 1 Youth, 2 Skills training introduced by the Governor to have every youth learn and master at least two skills.
Comrade Okoli enjoined them to desist from criminal acts and say no to get-rich-quick syndrome, as well as unbridled quest for materialism. He urged the youths to avoid the temptations associated with kidnapping, cultism, drug abuse and rape, adding that such despicable engagements could only mar their future.
I Believe in Anambra Declaration and unveiling of ”I Believe in Anambra Campaign” handbook, formed the highpoints of the meeting.
