Our Lady Special Science Secondary School Nnobi Marks 62nd Anniversary

Our Lady’s Special Science Secondary School Nnobi is sixty two years as the school recently rolled out their drums to celebrate Diamond Jubilee which coincides with​ the pastoral visit of Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, the Archbishop of Onitsha and Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province.

Our correspondent was there and reports that the presence of Archbishop Valerian Okeke who was on pastoral visit, was an additional birthday gift to the school which was born in 1958 by the Roman Catholic Irish Missionary working in the Archdiocese of Onitsha during the visit of Reverend Father Greoetis to Nnobi.

In his sermon Archbishop Okeke charged the faithful to always ask and seek God’s Holy Spirit, as it is the main motivator and strength to achieving exploits in academic excellence and growth in Christian faith.

He referenced the gift of God’s holy Spirit on the Pentecost day which empowered the apostles to do more in the propagation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In an interview, the Commissioner for Basic Education Professor Kate Omenugha applauded the landmark achievements recorded in the school within the period it was handed over back to the church, expressing optimism that the collaboration of the church and the government led by Governor Willie Obiano, more will be recorded in the school.

Commissioner Omenugha who single handedly equipped and and donated a model staff room, charged the staff and students of the school to work extra hard to lift the name of the school to greater heights.

Also speaking the Chairman House Committee on Basic Education, member representing Anaocha Two Constituency Honourable Ejike Okechukwu, said the partnership between the church and the government has brought purposeful standard of education based on international best practices.

In a welcome address the Principal of the school Lady Cornelia Okeke, said she was happy to be part of the diamond jubilee celebration and affirmed that through the combined effort of the State government and the Catholic Mission of Archdiocese of Onitsha and the resilience and supportive Spirit of PTD members, the school will continue to rise as center for academic and moral excellence.

The Manager of the school Reverend Father Uchenna Idoko thanked the Archbishop for giving them the honor of his pastoral visit and plegded to continue to work hard to ensure that school remain the best in academic centre of excellence.

The occasion which attracted the traditional ruler of Nnobi, Igwe Nick Obi, Chairman ASUBEB, Chief Patrick Ugboaja, Chairman PPSSC Lady Ify Okaro, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Basic Education Mr. Linus Nwabueze, Lady Josephine Onuorah Secretary PPSSC, among others, featured the Confirmation and Sacrament of Baptism of some of the newly admitted students, folkplays, traditional music rendition.

Commissioning of new assembly ground, water fountain and staff room equipped and donated by Commissioner Omenugha climaxed the event.
