The member representing Orumba South Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Emmanuel Nwafor, has promised to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of Orumba South and assured his constituents of continuous effective and responsive representation.
Nwafor, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Culture, Tourism and Diaspora Matters, gave the assurance on Friday, June 12, at the Anambra State House of Assembly while giving account of his performance after one year in office as a legislator.
He noted that his style of representation which he described as people-oriented, was meant to change the narrative of representation which the people of Orumba South had experienced in the past decades, adding that he had been able to give his people quality representation.
He said, ‘Through my style of representation which I can say is people-oriented, my people can now feel the impact of government. This one year anniversary for me, is a moment of taking stock of what I have been able to do and what I will still do. I have my manifesto and know the promises I made to each of the 15 communities that make up Orumba South. I will see to the fulfillment of those promises before the end of my tenure which comes in 3 years’ time.
‘I have sponsored and co-sponsored many bills and motions, including: Covid-19 and other Dangerous Infectious Diseases Prevention and Eradication Bill, 2020, stoppage of unauthorized excavation of laterite, stones and local sharp sand at the defunct Oba Airport site and prosecution of defaulters.
Others are: Bill on the construction of the Ogbunka, Nawfija, Ajali Ufuma road; Ezira Umuomaku-Enugu Umuonyia-Achina Road to allow communities like Agbudu, Onneh access to Orumba South; rearing of local cow to control open grazing; decongestion of traffic in Eke Awka and the evacuation of sellers along the road in major markets.
He expressed concern that the state of road infrastructure in the constituency had made it difficult for the constituents to embark on large scale farming, saying that they usually encountered difficulties during the harvest period and subsequent evacuation to other parts of the state.
The lawmaker disclosed that his office had facilitated the registration and enrollment of over 100 constituents who would be undergoing medical treatment for a period of one year into the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency.
‘Through my representation, about 100 persons have been enrolled with the ASHIA Scheme. I have also paid the WEAC fee of over 100 indigent students to promote education.
‘Free medication outreach was put in place within the beginning of this year across the 15 communities in the constituency. The idea was for people to learn and adopt some healthy practices for longevity.
‘In the area of empowerment, about 11 shuttle buses have been given out to some individuals, mostly males, and 13 motorcycles to women for effective and easy trading activities. More will still be given to empower my people,’ he said.
On the coronavirus pandemic, Nwafor said he embarked on massive sensitization and public awareness campaign against the disease to curtail its spread within the constituency, noting that the sensitization was carried out together with the distribution of preventive materials.
He reaffirmed that his constituency projects would not be one sided and promised to get to all the 15 communities in the constituency, just as the palliatives were distributed to all communities.
Speaking on the achievements of the 7th Anambra State House of Assembly, Nwafor said it had lived up to its cardinal objectives in the past one year and noted that the house had remarkably improved the living condition of the people with the passage of people oriented bills and resolutions.
