Onwumelu Re-elected As Uruegbe Umuoji Youth Leader

A renowned Awka based Journalist and influencer skilled in developmental journalism, Comrade (Sir) Mmaduabuchi Onwumelu, was on the 4th of January 2024 re-elected as the youth leader of Uruegbe Youth Development Association, UYDA, Umuoji, in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, after what many adjudged as a successful and impactful first term in office. Comrade Onwumelu alongside other newly elected officials will pilot the affairs of the organization for the next the 3 years.

In the election which was conducted at Uruegbe Village Civic Centre, Umuoji, the grassroots mobilizer polled a total of 95 votes to defeat his closest rival, Comrade Tochukwu Okoji (Future) who polled 79 votes, while Mr Chukwuebuka Egbo polled 9 votes.

Others and their positions include: Publicity Secretary: Mr. Chidiebere Okoye (unopposed); Provost: Chukwuebuka Oraefo; Onyeka Obi; Treasurer, Chimee Nwosa; Izuu Ibeabuchi; Ekene Udokwu; Financial Secretary, Ibezim Ebuka; Elochukwu Muoghalu; Ibodimma Chilozie. Secretary: Oluchukwu Ikwelle; Mmaduabuchi Ikwueme.

Announcing the results, the 2024 Uruegbe Youth Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr Elvis Chukwunonso Okonkwo, said the candidates conducted themselves in an orderly manner before and during the elections.

The elections were observed by the National Secretary of Umuoji Improvement Union of Nigeria, UIUN (Youth Wing), UYDA, Comrade Uche Udego; National Publicity Secretary, Echezona Okeke and Uruaneke Youth Leader, Comrade Eloo Cele Offodile .

In their separate speeches, the Regent of Umuoji, High Chief Dr C.O. Nnedu; the Chairman of Uruegbe Village Brothers’ Union (UBU), Hon Christian Oranu and High Chief PNP Okonkwo, admonished the new exco to work according to the constitution guiding the association and to ensure that they carried every member along, as well as work closely with Uruegbe Ukaoye.

In his acceptance speech Comrade Sir Onwumelu pledged to uphold the constitution governing the association and to assiduously work towards achieving the set objectives of the organization.

Highlight of the event was the swearing in of the newly elected exco by Barr. Eric Ikwele.
