Ahead of his inauguration and some days after emerging victorious in the keenly contested election for Awka North and South Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Chinedu Onwuaso of the People’s Democratic Party has vowed to ensure people-oriented representation through the programmes he plans to implement for his constituents.
He noted that his style of representation and the programmes which he planned to execute would enable the masses to whom he dedicated his victory at the polls, to get unlimited access to him, saying that he would be readily accessible and available to address issues as they emanated.
It should be recalled that Engr. Onwuaso, following the recently concluded House of Representatives Election held on 23 February, 2019, was declared winner by the returning officer, Ejiofor Virginia Ebele.
Fides gathered that Onwuaso polled a total number of 32,579 votes to defeat his closet opponent from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who polled a total 16,317 votes, thus defeating his closest rival with a margin of 16,262 votes.
Speaking to Fides in his office complex at Umuokpu-Awka, Engr. Onwuaso expressed appreciation to the people of his constituency for voting massively for him to be elected and noted that the people voted for him due to the visible plans he presented during the campaign tours and not necessarily because of his political party.
In his words ‘my track records, antecedents and visible plans which I have for the people of my constituency delivered me at the polls and not my political party. People are not wise, the era of political parties delivering candidates is over as people now vote base on individuals’ capacity. I promise to get Awka North and South Federal Constituency working again. I pray that God in his infinity mercy grants me the enablement which I require to deliver my campaign promises to my people,’ he noted.
He disclosed his intention to adopt the programmes which had been flagged off by his predecessor, Hon. Anayo Nnebe, and implementing later.
‘If there is any programme which my predecessor started that needs to be completed, I will carry on with such programme and ensure that it is completed. He is a member of my constituency and I intend to carry him and others who contested with me along. Once I get a blue print of what they intend to do, I will adopt it after critically going through it,’ he stated.
Onwuaso promised to leverage on his background as an industrialist to push bills at the lower chamber that would create employment opportunities.
