The Vicar, Church of The Holy Spirit Awka, Venerable Dr Onyeka Egwuonwu has insisted that any Christian without Godly love is not a Christian, as, according to him, only love stands out a Christian from the crowd of other religions and not prayer or fasting”.
In his interactive sermon on Sunday, Ven Egwuonwu encouraged Christians to shun jealousy, pride, unforgiving spirit, lustfulness and anger, for only love helps a Christian in his or her faith.
He later dwelt on what makes marriage stand and what constitutes rocking the boat in marriages which attracted reactions from the congregation as part of Sunday school during sermon.
He pointed out that jealousy destroys and can lead to witchcraft. He added that God is love and God’s other name is love hence, His followers must be exemplary when it comes to Godly love.
Venerable Egwuonwu who is the Archdeacon, CHS Archdeaconry, Awka, noted that the word, love, has been misconstrued by many hence, many relationships have crashed, while others suffer because of fake love people show.
He encouraged Christians to understand the word love and apply it appropriately, even as he is worried that many Christians have become judges of others lifestyle, rather than focus on Jesus Christ for His redemption and glory, since it’s God’s duty to judge.
He noted that patience is a virtue and great asset in every marriage for peace and love to grow, even as he advocated that couples in Christian Marriages should be slow to anger by avoiding impatience and allowing each other time to change for better.
Ven Egwuonwu who spoke on the theme: “Godly Love and Worldly Lust contrasted”, informed that it takes time for character of Christian to grow.
