Okwuanyionu Foundation Holds Third Edition of Scholarship Award

Over Fifty Secondary School Students in Anaocha LGA of Anambra State have been awarded scholarship through their Secondary School Education. The scheme was availed to them through the Okwuanyionu Foundation, founded by Ezeani Dr JK Okoye, and had been functioning for the past three years till date.

The third edition of the scholarship ceremony which held at the Obeledu Microfinance bank Hall, Friday, 6th September 2019 had dignitaries, parents of beneficiaries and the twenty-two candidates of the scheme, who emerged successful for the 2019/2020 edition.

The beneficiaries of the scheme were selected from the Junior and Senior secondary school students who performed distinctly in the Okwuanyionu set examination, which included subjects as Mathematics, English and Igbo languages.

Fides discovered that the third edition had a total of two hundred and forty-five candidates who sat for the junior category examination and a total number of eleven emerged, for the senior category, eleven candidates were successful out of the ninety-nine who sat for the exams.

Speaking during the ceremony, the founder, Ezeani Dr JK Okoye, expressed delight over the distinct academic records of the beneficiaries, hoping that they would sustain such academic fits in their educational pursuits. He noted that he had enjoyed scholarships all through his academic years and would want to replicate such gestures through the Okwuanyionu foundation. He went further to explain that the foundation was set up after his late father, Mr. Okwuanyionu, who died few days after his birth. Even so, Dr. Okoye, said that the scheme was deliberate in his effort to help the indigent who may have the zest to further their education achieve their dreams.

The founder promised that Okwuanyionu was going to extend its tentacles to other parts of the states, even though its presently functioning at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, through the Center for Culture, Arts and …where people can get accustomed with the igbo culture and language.

Advising parents, Dr Okoye urged them to propagate the igbo language by instilling the love of the language in their wards.

Explaining during his report on the Foundation, the foundation’s administrator, Ichie Nnoli (FCAI) thanked the founder for such opportunity given to young people, he said this while giving the breakdown of beneficiaries, scores, their towns and requirements for obtaining the scholarship. He advised parents to look out for information with regards to the details of next edition and sales of forms on the Fides Newspapers, while sales of forms would be at Obeledu Microfinance bank, the department of Academic Services, Anaocha LGA; St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Neni;Divine Mercy College, Adazi Enu; and BMGS,Adazi Nnukwu.

In their separate speeches, the traditional ruler of Obeledu, Igwe A. C Oragwam, the Local govt Chairman,Anaocha LGA, Chief Patrick Onyedum; the Chairman of the occasion, Dr. P.N Anaochie; the parish priests, St. Paul’s, Obeledu, Rev. Fr. Louis Nwobi; expressed their heartfelt joy over the landmark achievement of the foundation in the Anaocha LGA, and also appreciated the founder for affecting the lives of the people positively.

For her part, the Accountant and facilitator of the Foundation, Mrs Josephine U. Okeke, recalled how the foundation had played positive roles in her life and family while she advised parents to inculcate the right attitude to studies in their children.

Parents of beneficiaries who spoke to Fides included Mr Emmanuel Anigbogu, from Obeledu, Mr Peter Anusi, from Akwaeze; and Mrs Anigbogu who thanked the benefactor for his largesse and prayed for God’s protection over him.

Some of the beneficiaries including Miss Chimdindu Okechukwu, Chidimma Anigbogu,among others appreciated the Foundation for the kind gestures while they promised to do better in their academics and also replicate the good deeds in the future.
