The executive members of Socio-Cultural Organization, Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Anambra State Chapter led by Ichie Damian Okeke-Ogene, recently kicked off what they described as rotational executive meeting at Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The meeting, held at Idemili North LGA headquarters, had the entire State and Idemili North Local Government Area executive members of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, relevant stakeholders, Idemili North leaders of thought, Presidents General and the Transition Committee chairman of Idemili North, Hon. Barr. Raph ASHA Nnabuife, in attendance.
Addressing the gathering, the State President of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Ichie Damian Okeke-Ogene, expressed satisfaction with the turn out of members during the meeting.
He explained that the reason for the rotational executive meeting was to ensure that every member of the association had a sense of belonging and also to enable the leadership to have a first-hand assessment of each council area.
The Ohaneze Ndi Igbo paid a glowing tribute to Idemili North Local Government Area, saying the council had produced great men and women that served at the highest level of leadership in Ohaneze.
Okeke-Ogene decried what he described as lack of patronage from political office holders, especially the transition committee chairmen, noting that Ohaneze Ndi Igbo remained apolitical and indifferent to politics.
He urged local government chairmen to give support to executive members of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo in their various local government areas to enable them to host monthly meetings as they were not receiving money from anyone, but sustaining themselves through individual efforts and goodwill.
On the Fulani herdsmen’s menace, Ogene called for concerted efforts to help nip in the bud, what he described as incessant raping of women and killings, emphasizing that the issue of Fulani herdsmen should not be taken lightly.
He urged the gathering to appeal to their relatives, friends and neighbours, to be mindful of their movements, while not hesitating to report any suspicious movement or strange faces to the relevant community constituted authorities.
Responding, the Transition Committee Chairman of Idemili North, Hon. Barr. Raph ASHA Nnabuife, thanked the Ohaneze Ndi Igbo leadership for choosing Idemili North for the meeting, saying that he would look into their request.
The council boss, represented by the former President General of Oraukwu and the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Willie Obiano on Community Liaison, Chief Emeka Udodeme, extolled Ohaneze Ndi Igbo, Anambra State Chapter leadership, led by Ichie Damian Okeke-Ogene, for what he described as the good works they were doing in the state.
