Odogwu Returned as Anambra NUJ Chairman

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Chapter, has concluded its elections, with Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, Ph.D, emerging as the Chairman. Odogwu secured 173 votes, defeating his sole opponent, Comrade Mrs. Ngozi Obileri, who garnered 40 votes.

For the position of Treasurer, Chibuzo Obidike triumphed with 168 votes, overtaking the former treasurer, Ogemdi Ozoemenam, who obtained 45 votes. Meanwhile, the position of Financial Secretary went unopposed to Comrade Grace Onwukwe.

In other roles, the Vice Chairman position was clinched by Comrade Betty Onuchukwu, while Comrade Okey Onuegbu emerged victorious as the Secretary. He will be assisted in this role by Comrade Chinyere Ogbuagu.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new executive council (exco) was conducted in line with the laws of the federation, overseen by a judicial officer to ensure due process.

During his vote of thanks, Hon. Afam Ogene, member representing Ogbaru Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation within the union.

Similarly, Hon. Carmen Chuks, former Media Director to the late Ifeanyi Uba, commended the orderly conduct of the elections. He urged the elected officials to work collaboratively to advance the affairs of the Anambra NUJ.

Chuks, who now serves as the Media Director for Anambra South Senatorial Aspirant, Ebuka Onunkwo, announced Onunkwo’s commitment to supporting the union. He pledged to provide a new sound-generating set to aid the union’s operations.

In a congratulatory message, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, speaking on behalf of the State Government, lauded the winners and wished them a successful tenure. He further expressed the government’s readiness to work closely with the union in achieving its objectives.

The elections are expected to mark a new chapter for the Anambra State NUJ, with optimism for progress and collaboration among its members under the leadership of Comrade Odogwu.
