Observing the Ideals of Lenten Season

Lent is a solemn religious observance in the Christian Liturgical Calendar that starts on Ash Wednesday and ends after a period of forty days.

During these forty days, Christians are expected to follow the footsteps of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and withdrawal into the wilderness.

It is a season set aside for the purpose of reflecting on Jesus, considering his suffering, life, death, burial and resurrection.

The three pillars of lent are fasting, praying and almsgiving. During the season of lent, Catholics over the age of 14 are expected to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays in lent.

Lent is a good time for self-denial. It is a good time to ask ourselves what we can give up in order to help enrich others by our own poverty.

It is also a time to ask God for a heart that is full of mercy and compassion. It is a time to love and help the poor while at the same time, loving and serving Christ.

Lent is indeed, a time to grow in holiness!
