Mr. Peter Obi presenting his ₦20 million donation to the Mother General of the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Dike, for the ongoing School of Nursing Project at Annunciation Hospital, Enugu.
Mr. Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 General Elections, has once again demonstrated his consistent commitment to education and healthcare development by donating an additional ₦20 million to the Daughters of Divine Love Congregation for the ongoing construction of their School of Nursing at Annunciation Hospital, Enugu. This latest support brings his total contribution to the project to ₦120 million.
During his visit, Mr. Obi was warmly received by the Mother General, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Dike, and other members of the Congregation, who conducted him and his team around the facility to inspect the progress of work.
In his remarks, Mr. Obi stressed the importance of education and healthcare as essential pillars of national growth. He noted that investing in the training of nurses and other healthcare professionals was an investment in life, compassion and service to humanity.
‘Education remains the most powerful tool for lifting people out of poverty and ignorance. When we educate and empower nurses, we are not only building capacity for our healthcare system but also nurturing the spirit of care and selfless service that our society desperately needs. I am happy to support this noble project because it will touch lives in profound ways,’ Obi said.
He encouraged the Sisters to continue what he described as their good work with faith and perseverance, assuring them that his support for initiatives that uplifted society was driven by conviction, not politics.
In her words of appreciation, Rev. Sr. Anastasia Dike described Mr. Obi as ‘a rare human being who has reduced his personal needs to the barest minimum in order to use the greater part of his resources to serve God through humanity.’
She further said that Mr. Obi’s ₦20 million donation that day brought his total support to ₦120 million. ‘His generosity is consistent, genuine, and without political attachment. He gives to everyone and in every part of the country with the same spirit of service,’ Sister Dike enthused.
Also present at the event were Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna and Prof. Patrick Obi, who both commended Mr. Obi for his simplicity, integrity, and unwavering commitment to human development.
Prof. Okunna expressed her joy, saying, ‘I am always proud of him. He lives what he preaches – simplicity, integrity, and service to humanity.’
