The Senator Representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Senator Dr Victor Umeh, says he is not surprised at the soaring profile of the presidential candidate of Labour Party in the 2023 General Elections, Peter Obi, because Obi’s political philosophy stands him out from the pack.

Umeh said this while congratulating Obi on his clinching of the Sun Newspaper Political Icon Award for the Year 2023.

Senator Umeh in his congratulatory message on behalf of himself, family and the people of Anambra Central Senatorial District, stated that it was an award most deserved by Obi.

He extolled Mr Obi’s style of politics, which, he said, focused on developmental issues, ethical and moral rebirth in the country

‘Obi’s revolutionary political strides during the campaigns aroused Nigerians from their slumber and inspired in them the consciousness that a new Nigeria is indeed possible.

Umeh said despite the controversial outcome of the polls, Obi chose the path of due process and the rule of law in ventilating his disapproval of the process that birthed the outcome of the election.

‘With the conclusion of the election and the final judgement of the Supreme Court in the disputed polls, Obi has moved on with candour and has not withdrawn his efforts at seeking a better Nigeria, as he has continued to move round Nigeria to lift the morale of the downtrodden masses and offering them succour.

‘With his exemplary display of civility and engagement throughout the political process, Obi easily stood out as the hero of the 2023 General Elections.

‘His gale swept across the country in a manner never witnessed before in political contests in Nigeria,’ Umeh said, while thanking the Management of the Sun Newspaper and its Publishers for giving the honour, according to him, to the most deserving unusual politician in the country.

He prayed God to continue to grant good health to Mr Obi as he continues to make his contributions towards strengthening democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
