A governorship Aspirant on the platform of Labour Party, LP, Mr John Nwosu, has expressed concern over the activities of the Special Anti-Touting Squad, otherwise called SASA, a creation of the Anambra State Government to fight touts at motor parks and markets.

Nwosu’s concerns came on the heels of a viral video of SASA officials brutalizing some citizens of the state in Onitsha.

Nwosu in his X handle, formerly Twitter, regretted that those were supposedly Anambra State Government internal revenue agents, had become tormentors of members of the public and brutalizing Anambra indigenes in the name of IGR collection.

He said, ‘Similar traumatizing episodes have reportedly occurred between ANSG Waste Management and ANSG Anti-Touting Agents and innocent and unsuspecting citizens.

‘Whatever be the  case, any crime or violation, and even if the individuals were suspected cultists, drug peddlars, bandits or kidnappers, does not warrant  such egregious cruelty, torture  and uncivilized reprisal.

These are by no means the proper way for the government to deal with law and order and rule of law matters. The ANSG is vicariously liable for these wanton acts of brutality that in no way represent civility, humaneness or good governance. Such conducts must cease forthwith.’

It will be recalled that the activities of these officials have been causing serious problems in many markets and parks in Onitsha, owing to the use of pestles by the group to beat up perceived defaulters.
