The Presidential Candidate for the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Dele Atunbi, visited the Anambra State Council of NUJ over the weekend to seek their support and votes ahead of the union’s triennial conference scheduled November 27, 2024, in Owerri, Imo State.
Addressing members of the council, Atunbi, who is the current NUJ Treasurer, in his manifesto tagged *NUJ Rejuvenation* emphasized on his commitment to uploading the tenets of leadership, welfare, and integrity restoration within the Union.
“I’ll improve on the welfare of journalists, amend the NBC Act, establish a structured salary scale for media professionals, and advocate for safety and training opportunities both locally and internationally,” he reiterated.
Atunbi also pledged to enhance the union’s infrastructure and foster a robust inter/relationship with affiliate bodies like Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), the Guild of Editors, and Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
The candidate was warmly welcomed by the Anambra State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Emeka Odogwu, PhD, alongside council members.
“Amongst the three presidential candidates, only Comrade Dele Atunmbi deemed it right to come to Anambra State council to address us,” the Chairman noted.
In his remarks, the Vice President of NUJ South East Zone C, Comrade Emmanuel Ifesinachi, endorsed Atunbi’s candidacy, stating that he is the most capable among the three candidates vying for the NUJ National President position. He urged union members to support Atunbi, who he believes will advance the interests of the union.
The event featured a poster presentation as the highpoint of the campaign.
