The Governorship Candidate of African Democratic Congress, ADC, Mr John Nwosu, says it is in the best interest of Nigerians that the coalition of political parties must succeed. Nwosu stated this at the Asaba Airport, where he was caught up with newsmen.
It will be recalled that a mega alliance of some major political parties in Nigeria is being formed, with such personalities as Alhaji Atiku Abubarkar and Mr Peter Obi, as the principal characters.
Asked his views on the coalition against the backdrop of recent surge of coalition platforms, Nwosu said rescuing Nigeria was paramount and had become a compelling imperative.
‘Given the level of state capture and poor governance we are witnessing, it is in the common and national interest to arrest the drift and this is what the coalition aims to achieve,’ Nwosu stated.
On why he left the Labour Party to join ADC, the ICT guru said, ‘We have values and choices. You need to be able to defend the platform from where you operate. Where there are obvious conflicts to conscience and integrity, you excuse yourself or risk being party to the wrongdoings. ADC presented a credible alternative.’
While reacting to the exchange of positions between Abure’s and Sen. Nenadi’ camps, the Guber hopeful said he was no longer a member of LP, and as such, not well situated to comment on that issue anymore.
Preferring to talk further on the coalition, he described it as a gathering of like minds or people or platform with a similar or common interest; even as he noted that personalities and candidates could drive or influence a coalition.
‘The common interest now is to salvage the sinking ship called Nigeria,’ he reiterated.
Speaking on his chances of emerging victorious against some well-known candidates and their deputies, Nwosu said, ‘Some are old political hands with visible and known baggage. Some are serial contestants. That’s not what Anambra needs. We can’t rid ourselves of one bad governance yoke only to embrace another. We need a fresh face, fresh start and sustainable governance in Anambra. I’m obligated to serve.’
