The new Commissioner for Ministry of Tertiary Institution, Science and Technology, Solid Minerals and Energy, Anambra State, Barr. Sally Mbanefo, recently paid a familiarization visit to Anambra State Polytechnic (ANSPOLY), Mgbakwu, in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Fides reports that the visit kick-started the commissioner’s familiarization tour of state-owned tertiary institutions under her ministry.
Speaking during her first official visit to the Institution, the commissioner stated that she needed to see things that had happened and were happening in the Polytechnic herself with a view to taking up from where the past commissioner stopped.
According to her, she would ensure that the vision and mission of the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, in creating the institution, was actualized.
Mbanefo expressed satisfaction at the level of development in the institution and appreciated Governor Willie Obiano on his giant developmental strides in the Polytechnic, noting that the all-round infrastructural development of the current administration was visible
The immediate past Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs appreciated the Rector and her team in living up to the mandate given them, even as she extolled the Governing Council led by its Chairman, Prof C. P. E. Omaliko, on their untiring efforts in the overall progress of the young Polytechnic.
Continuing, she encouraged the Rector, Management, staff and students of the only state-owned Polytechnic to continue living up to expectations in order to sustain the tempo of development and progress already recorded and in place, assuring that she would intimate the Governor on her findings during her visit.
She extolled the good works of the Governor to the people of Anambra and to humanity, which, she said, extended to the proactive measures he took in the fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic and promised that the Governor would continue with all round infrastructure and human development of the baby institution while improving steadily on the welfare package of the staff.
The commissioner who said the governor was interested in making tertiary institutions self-reliant, charged them to look inwards and fashion out projects that would boost their IGR.
She promised to invite the Chairman, House Committee on Tertiary Education, Hon Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, to the flag off the ANSPOLY IGR projects scheduled for Wednesday, 1st July, 2020 at the Polytechnic.
The commissioner said a lot of innovations would be introduced in the area of education, especially the e-library, which, she said, would give students access to millions of books relevant to all fields of study.
She pointed out that the e-library for the schools was to ensure that e-learning was imbibed in the schools and that the two ministries of basic education and her ministry would partner on the project.
Earlier, the Rector, Dr. Nneka Mefoh, welcoming the commissioner, said the Governor had not relented in seeing that the Polytechnic became the centre of excellence in education and all round human capital development.
Contributing, all the Principal Officers, including the Public Relations Officer of ANSPOLY, Mgbakwu, Mr Chukwuanu Sunday Okagbue, thanked the commissioner for her visit and promised to give her maximum cooperation and support.
Accompanying the Honourable Commissioner were the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Solid Minerals and Energy, Barr. Pauline Nwandu, and other Senior Staff in the Ministry.
