Sequel to the Anambra State Government’s directive to all the markets, parks, layouts, schools, churches, among others, to desilt drainages around their environment and evacuate all silts with immediate effect, and also his determination to maintain and sustain a clean and healthy market, the Chairman, Nkpor Auto Spare Parts Market, Idemili North Council Area, Chief Stephen Ofoleh, and his team, have embarked on a massive cleaning, desilting of drainages to allow free flow of water, clean and healthy environment.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Thursday, March 7, Chief Ofoleh, expressed satisfaction with Governor Soludo’s Government, his achievements so far, especially in ensuring cleanliness and healthy environment in all the nooks and crannies of the state.
He said the New Auto Spare Parts would not be left out in the governor’s mantra of a clean and healthy environment.
In the memo from the Ministry of Environment, the governor, Ofoleh said, was conscious that all markets in the state must be clean by cleaning their environments.
‘Since we came in as the new executive of this market, we have met a lot of challenges, like that of the over-filled toilet soak-away, dilapidated toilet facilities and others which we have restored within weeks and mounted solar lights around the market.
‘The Managing Director, MD of Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, Mr Mike Ozoemena, with his team, visited our market on a sensitization tour to educate traders on proper waste disposal methods, cleanliness and drainage maintenance.
‘He frowned at the current state of drainages and warned us to abide by the government’s directives by maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
‘And I promised him we will do that; not only doing that, to also guide it all through, protect it to make sure it is always clean, I will also have taskforce that will always be there to make sure that no dirt/waste is thrown into the drainages,’ he assured.
