Two children have been crushed to death at the River Niger Bridge Head in Onitsha, following the brake failure of a truck.

The incident happened on Saturday, March 23, at around 5pm. The mother of the two deceased children however escaped alive.

An eyewitness who confirmed the event said: ‘The trailer which was heading towards Asaba lost control and hit the mother and her children alongside other passengers waiting to board vehicles heading to Asaba.

‘The mother was lucky as she escaped, but her two children were crushed to death.’

The eyewitness said the mother wailed inconsolably. Some other people who were involved in the accident sustained injuries.

As at the time of filing this report, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was yet to confirm the incident.
