
. . . Seeks Support for Madonna Girls’ Umunze Admin Block

The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus Eeokafor, has called for support towards the speedy completion of the Administrative Block of the Diocesan-owned Madonna Girls’ Secondary School, Umunze, Orumba South L.G.A, Anambra State, so as to create space for the growing population of the school.
Bishop Ezeokafor, who made the call on the occasion of the 2019 Annual Feast / Parents’ Day Celebration of Madonna Gils’ Secondary School, Umunze on February 24, 2019, stressed the urgent need for more and stable infrastructural development for the school, so as to sustain the development of the girls’ college founded by the Catholic Women’s Organization (C.W.O), Akpu Region of Awka Diocese.
The bishop called on the parents, well-wishers of the school and Orumba people to donate in support of the project for the only Catholic Girls’ Secondary School in Orumba South L.G.A. He noted that speedy completion of the administrative block which would house offices, laboratories, ICT department and library, among others, would create more academic space in the already existing academic block.
He noted that mission schools were for proper and all round formation of every individual, saying that the Church’s mission for education was to give balanced physical and spiritual formation to the human person.
The bishop commended the school manager, Rev Fr. Paul Onyebuchi I; the principal, Lady Justina Okafor and the entire formators of the school, for their supportive roles towards actualization of the Church’s mission of all round and qualitative education for the young ones. He urged them not to relent in doing justice to their vocation, the meagre pay they received notwithstanding.
Presentation of academic Excellent Awards to the students that distinguished themselves in academics and character; arts and science exhibitions by the students, cultural dances displays by the students and donations in support of the school projects were highlights of the event which had the President General of Umunze Town Union, Hon. John Akanyeonu as the chairman of the occasion, and the provost of Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Dr. Tessy Okoli, among others in attendance.
Some of the students’ awardees were Philomena Nwankwo for C.W.O Akpu Deanery’s Trophy for the most duty conscious student, Frances Onwe for C.W.O Umunze Deanery’s Trophy for overall best student in Physics and Juliet Nwigwe for Late Madeiline Ezulike’s Trophy for the neatest student.
In the Fr. Benjamin Ezulike’s Trophy for the four gifted students, Helen Agunwa, won a prize for bead making; Peace Igwegbe for baking; Catherine Onwuzulike, got a prize for sewing, and Jane Onyeri for drawing.
