Residents of Mgbakwu, Awka North, Anambra State, have lauded the State Governor, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano, on what they describe as his unrelenting strides in infrastructural development, especially the construction of roads in their community, which is opening up investment opportunities.

A cross-section of the residents, who spoke to Fides last Monday, said the governor had sustained and maintained road construction in urban and rural areas to their delight and was opening up communities that were almost unreachable.

Esther Oluremi Abiodun, a corps member serving in Awka North, said the governor had given a good account of himself in terms of road construction, maintaining that the project would cushion the suffering of the people.

According to her, ‘The construction of this road is a relief to many of us in this part of the state. We also see what is happening in other parts of the state and we are proud to have Obiano as our governor. He is doing really well in road construction.’

A resident of Mgbakwu, Mr Pius Nnamdi, popularly known as Old Soldier Never Die, told Fides that aside Peter Obi, he was yet to see a governor like Willie Obiano who took upon himself infrastructural development as major priority in governance.

Mr Nnamdi said the ongoing project would be the first of its kind in the history of the area.

‘I want to thank the state government for remembering our area. For years, the road was dense. But now, we can heave a sigh of relief. It will go down in history here that Obiano helped to lift this burden.’ Nnamdi said.

One of the contractors assured that the state government will not relent in executing road projects in urban and rural communities to spread development.

Fides also gathered that while the residents hailed the state government for such initiative, they also urged it to complete the project before the rainy season.
