Obviously, one of the best schools in Nigeria, Loretto Special Science School, Adazi Nnukwu has continued to set the pace putting in place, activities and programms geared towards the betterment of the students.
Sequel to its continuous effort to make the best out of the students, the Management on Sunday, 27th October, awarded students who had distinguished themselves in various sphere of life in order to promote healthy competition among the students and help them develop optimally in areas where they were good at. The award giving day coincided with the inauguration of 2019/2020 Academic year and Induction cum Investiture of New Students.
The event which started with a pontifical Holy Mass led by His Lordship, Most Rev Ebere Okpaleke, former Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, saw students clinching over 50 awards in various categories sponsored by some individuals for the School Management and ’94 set Old Girls of the School.
In his homily, Bishop Okpaleke emphasized the importance of education especially of the girl child. He charged the Loretto princesses to be humble and diligent amidst success and failures while aspiring for the big future of their dreams so as to repay the many efforts of the government, the church and their parents.
In a remarkable manner, the Bishop received the vows of the new students and blessed their new school uniforms. The joy of the new students following the inspiration on their faces knew no bounds as they marched out in their uniforms.
Speaking at the event, The Anambra State Commissioner for Basic Education, Hon Kate Omenugha, thanked the Church and the school management for ensuring a seamless and fruitful partnership with the government. She declared herself, a special friend of Loretto and planed to replicate the innovations at Loretto in other schools in the state. She admonished the students to ‘keep their eyes on the ball’, while making the best use of the opportunity they had at the moment.
In his remark, the school manager, Rev Fr Francis Udeh, pointed out that discipline and academic excellence were the core values of the institution. He thanked the Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor; past and present governments in Anambra State; the school sponsors, students, parents and teachers of Loretto for their contribution towards the growth of the school.
The occasion witnessed massive presence of the school’s 1994 set who came for the Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of their graduation. In celebration of 25 years of graduating from the school, the ’94 set of Loretto gave out numerous cash prizes to outstanding students and teachers.
The unveiling of the Academic Achievement Board which was strategically placed in the compound and had pictures of all the best students in various subjects by the Honourable Commissioner, Prof. Kate Omenugha and presentation to both teachers and students formed highlight of the celebration. The award presented to the teachers and students which had financial undertone came in the field of academics and non-academics.
